Media Advisory: Liquor Control Board Hearing on Extended Hours of Alcohol Service

OLYMPIA, WASH. – The Liquor Control Board (Board) is holding a public hearing at the Kennewick Police Department at on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 from 1:30 to 3:30. At the hearing, a member of the Liquor and Cannabis Board staff will present a summary of the city of Seattle’s request to revise state rules that pertain to the permitted hours of alcohol service.

Under the city of Seattle’s proposal, new and amended rules would allow local governments to petition the Board to establish extended hours of alcohol service beyond 2:00 a.m. within local jurisdictions. State rule, WAC 314-11-070, currently prohibits the sale of alcohol between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. The rules would apply only to on-premises licensees such as taverns, restaurants and nightclubs.

On July 25, 2011, the city of Seattle petitioned the Board to open rule-making. As an open public meeting, the Board encourages members of the public and concerned organizations to attend the hearing and provide input on the proposal.
