Online tax payment option available to all wineries, breweries and retailers
October 27, 2008
OLYMPIA - All wineries, breweries and Washington retailers have the option to file their monthly summary tax reports and make tax payments through the Washington State Liquor Control Board's (WSLCB) Online Tax Reporting and Payment System. This option makes filing easier and more convenient.
"It is easy to use," according to Lava Cap Winery. "All you do is fill in the information and the program calculates the tax for you. The process is so quick and easy. It takes less than five minutes to file the tax reports for the company."
The online system emanated from 2006 legislation that modified direct-to-consumer shipping and tax requirements for out of state wineries. The system will simplify the reporting process for domestic and out-of-state reporters.
Highlights include that the system is available 24 hours a day, lets users view previously filed reports, verifies payments, and is secure and confidential.
"I would recommend it," according to Merry Cellars. "The ease and being able to complete the form online and submit payment allows us to never worry if we're using the current form, saves time by not needing to write a check and we receive immediate confirmation of payment."
The system is not available at this time to wine and beer distributors, importers and authorized representative certificate of approval holders, or public houses.
Eligible users can sign up for the option by contacting the WSLCB Beer and Wine Tax Unit at beerwinetaxes@lcb.wa.gov or (360) 664-1721. The system is accessible via the WSLCB Web site at lcb.wa.gov.
