Board to postpone decision on extended hours of alcohol service rulemaking until May 30, 2012
Petition request made by the City of Seattle
OLYMPIA – After consulting with the petitioner, the Washington State Liquor Control Board (WSLCB) will delay its decision on whether to accept the city of Seattle’s request to open rule-making regarding hours of alcohol service. The Board will vote on the request at its regularly scheduled Board meeting on May 30, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. The Board is seeking additional insight and information.
Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn and the Seattle City Council formally petitioned the Board in July 2011 to open the rule-making process.
Under Washington Administrative Code 314-11-070, liquor sales are prohibited between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. Mayor McGinn and the Seattle City Council are seeking a new section that would allow local governments to petition the WSLCB to establish extended hours of alcohol service within local jurisdictions.
The Board recently held four public hearings on the issue in Seattle, Vancouver, Kennewick and Spokane.
