Pregnancy or Breastfeeding Impacts

It is recommended that cannabis use be discontinued during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Physical evidence shows that THC can pass through the placenta from the mother to the unborn child. THC can also be passed from breast milk, potentially affecting the baby.

Use of cannabis during pregnancy is strongly associated with infants being born small for gestational age. There is also evidence that use during pregnancy is associated with negative effects on children, including decreased cognitive function and attention. These effects may not appear until adolescence.
