OLYMPIA – The Washington State Liquor Control Board will hold a meeting May 7 in Tacoma to review a request by the city of Tacoma to adopt a second Alcohol Impact Area (AIA) in the Lincoln District. Time is provided for public comment.

Where: Tacoma City Council Chambers, 747 Market Street, Tacoma
Within the Lincoln District Alcohol Impact Area boundaries are 62 liquor licensed businesses and three state liquor stores.
The Tacoma City Council enacted Ordinance 27602 creating a voluntary Alcohol Impact Area in the Lincoln District in April 2007. If chronic public inebriation and associated problems have not reduced following the voluntary AIA period, the next step is for the local authority to request the Liquor Control Board adopt the area as a mandatory Alcohol Impact Area.
Tacoma has one other Alcohol Impact Area approved in 2003 by the Liquor Control Board. Tacoma is the first city in the state to use the Alcohol Impact Area rules. Besides the original Tacoma Alcohol Impact Area, three other Board-approved Alcohol Impact Areas exist in Washington, all in the city of Seattle.
