Public Hearing Wednesday on Alcohol Advertising Rules

OLYMPIA - The Liquor Control Board (LCB) will hear public comments Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, regarding its proposed and revised alcohol advertising rules. The hearing will be part of the regularly scheduled Board meeting at 10 a.m. at the LCB headquarters located, at 3000 Pacific Ave. S.E. in Olympia.

Highlights of the new or revised rules include:

  • Limiting to four the number of signs advertising alcohol, brand names and manufacturers that are visible from the outside of a retail licensed premises;
     
  • Restricting the size of alcohol signs visible from the outside of a retail licensed premises to 1,600 square inches; and
     
  • Clarifying state law regarding sponsorship of public and civic events.

The advertising rules are being updated as part of a cyclical rules review process. The proposed rules are based on extensive public input requesting that the Board restrict the size, amount and location of alcohol advertising at liquor-licensed locations.
