The mission of the Liquor and Cannabis Board is to promote public safety and trust through fair administration and enforcement of liquor, tobacco and marijuana laws.
Public safety, education, and preventing misuse provides the contents of these pages dedicated to alcohol and marijuana education. We hope to provide you with helpful information, provide tools you can use, and direct you to other valuable resources.
With a primary focus on the prevention of underage drinking, the “Alcohol” section links to information for parents, teens, schools and communities that help to address this issue. Misuse of alcohol by adults is also a public safety problem, so there is included information on laws, trends, and dealing with abuse by older adults.
Due to the legalization of adult use of marijuana in Washington, the WSLCB has added a section on marijuana education. As with alcohol, our goal is to promote public safety.
The "Marijuana" section focuses on basic information about the laws regarding adult marijuana use. Other links provided include general information about marijuana, what parents need to know, a guide for consumers, and safety issues, especially regarding marijuana-infused edibles.
Included in both sections are links to other websites with more detailed information on the topics. Please browse these pages and check out the other links. Thank you for your interest in public safety.
Parents are the No. 1 influence
“Start Talking Now” is a statewide campaign that recognizes that parents are the No. 1 influence on whether their kids will use substances. It encourages parents and caregivers to have and continue to have conversations before they start using.
- Tips on how to have the conversations can be found both on this site and at StartTalkingNow.org.
- Posters from the “Start Talking Before They Start Drinking” series can be seen here. Order by sending an email to Mary.Segawa@lcb.wa.gov.
